Why eating meat is bad for environment?

Impact of meat consumption on environment and climate change

Eating meat is not just a threat to humanity but also to our planet.

Every 2 in 5 people loves to include meat in their diet. They consider it a source of protein and necessary for their health. The meat industry is one of the growing industries in recent years. The United States is the major consumer of meat, followed by Australia. Eating meat is not just bad for humanity but also a threat to our planet. Meat consumption is bad for our planet, being responsible for 11 to 20% of greenhouse gas emissions. It is a major factor for triggering climate change overall. This article is going to be about the impact of meat consumption on the environment and climate change.

What's in the post

Myth Related to Meat Consumption

There are so many foods that are related to meat consumption that promote eating meat. One is "you need  meat to be healthy." This is the most common. The meat industry constantly tries to prove that meat is essential in our diet, but the truth is that meat is not the only complete protein and not the only way to get vitamin B 12 and iron. There are also vegetarians all over the world who never eat meat and are healthy. The meat industry is becoming responsible for climate change globally. Climate model reports suggest that meat consumption should be avoided for climate change. Meat production and consumption lead to deforestation, pollution, and degradation of soil.

Why eating meat is bad for environment?

Deforestation

The meat industry results in the cutting down of trees in large numbers for the need for land resources for raising animals and setting up factories for storing meat. A large number of forests are cut down due to meat agriculture. This imbalance in our environment, the increased amount of carbon dioxide, is the result of deforestation. This also exaggerates global warming.

Pollution

1. Air Pollution

Deforestation is also a reason for pollution. Besides deforestation, due to the consumption of meat, there is air pollution. Farmhouses in which the animals are kept release greenhouse gases. Cow digestion and pigs become the cause of nitrous oxide. Storage of meat, factories, and farms are also major consumers of energy. They require large refrigerators that use a large amount of energy, which becomes the cause of pollution. The transportation of meat from one place to another also pollutes the air.

2. Water Pollution

Factories and farms are also major consumers of water. Synthetic fertilizers, manure, and pesticides pollute the groundwater, penetrating into the soil.

3. Soil Degradation

The way farms that are maintained for growing crops is responsible for soil erosion. According to the United States, by 2050, soil erosion could lose 75 billion tons of soil.

Solutions for meat  Consumption

We can reduce the impact of meat consumption on the environment by reducing meat consumption, shifting to plant-based diets, and supporting sustainable agriculture.

1. Reducing Meat Consumption

Meat consumption can be reduced slowly, but the final solution lies in completely refusing meat. All essential nutrients, including protein, can be achieved through plant-based diets.

2. Raising Awareness

Focusing awareness about the harmful impact of meat consumption on the environment and climate change is also important.

In my final words

Eating meat is a danger to our home planet Earth. It can be a serious call to global warming, climate change, and pollution. Many people believe eating meat is healthy for our bodies and necessary to meet our protein demand, but this is a total myth. Production, processing, and storage collectively cause deforestation, air pollution, water pollution, and soil degradation. By refusing meat, we can reduce the negative impact on our planet.
